25. Stop Bangkok, Thailand

Ku kandziyisiwile: 01.04.2020

After arriving so early at the hostel, we couldn't check in yet, but we left our backpacks there and went out for breakfast. After that, something very essential and important was on the agenda: we both wanted to extend our visa, because at the current state we would only be allowed to stay in Thailand for 2 more weeks. Due to the situation with the Corona virus, we were both very nervous if Thailand would still issue visas at all.

We made our way to the immigration office and arrived there 30 minutes before the official opening at 08:00 am, but there was still a long queue in front of us. We had to go through several steps: first fill out the official application, then take a number where our documents were checked for completeness, and finally personally submit the application to an officer. The first two processes were done relatively quickly and so we sat with what felt like hundreds of other people from 09:30 am onwards and waited until our number was finally called. Surprisingly, it went faster than expected and so we (both separately) sat with an officer at 11:00 am and had to answer various questions - or so we thought. I was only asked the question of why I wanted to extend my visa and until when. Afterwards, it took another hour until we got our signed application and documents back: now we were allowed to stay in Thailand until May 3rd.

Back at the hostel, we were finally able to check in and took a nap. Afterwards, we sat by the pool, soaked up some sun, and in the evening went to different bars and clubs.
