New acquaintances and Vienna // Session 20

The train journey to Vienna went quickly and smoothly. Arriving in Vienna, I took the subway to the hostel. Since it was relatively late, I just wanted to check in, do my laundry, and sleep. (By the way, I've become really lazy. Since the end of Italy, I haven't hand-washed anything, but always spent money on it.) In my hostel room, I made friends with my roommate and chatted a bit, then I carried out the rest of my plan. Unfortunately, I didn't get to bed until around 1 o'clock.

During the conversation with my roommate, I made plans to visit Vienna with her and another hostel visitor the next day. So the three of us set off without a plan in the morning around 10 o'clock.

It was the first time I did sightseeing with someone else, and I have to say that it's not very productive. Sure, it's more fun because you have someone to talk to and you're not alone when eating, but you don't get to see much and you can't look at things as closely as you want. After all, you don't want to keep the others waiting. Conclusion: Sightseeing together is sometimes funny and it's okay to do it, but I prefer to be alone because I get more out of it. However, I'm glad I spent the day with the people.

After eating at a brewery, we split up and I went shopping with my roommate while the other hostel visitor pursued her desires.

In the evening, my roommate and I had Indian food. It was very delicious, but afterwards we were too tired to continue, so we went to sleep.

The next day, I was alone again as my roommate had planned a day tour and I used the time to explore Vienna more closely. And that's what I did. I walked around a lot, saw many things from the outside, and visited an art history museum. Vienna is really beautiful. Besides its unique, beautiful, and special buildings, it also has generally nice residential houses. So it's not just the special buildings that look good, but almost all normal residential houses. That reminded me a bit of Wiesbaden. In Vienna, there is also generally much more to see than you could have done in 3 days.

The art museum was okay, but there I noticed again that I have lost interest in such things a long time ago because I have had too much of it lately.

In the evening of that day, my roommate and I went to the bar for a drink and we met our new roommates. One Chinese and one American. (The American is a professional volleyball player)

On the last full day in Vienna, I was alone again and saw other things. Among other things, I visited a historical museum, which I found really cool, even though I have developed a dislike for museums. And I also visited the Karlskirche, which I found really breathtaking. Especially from the outside, as it combines many different elements. Antique, Asian, Gothic, and more...

The next day, there wasn't much left except the departure to Prague by train.

The hostel in Vienna was great. I had a 4-room room, which was surprisingly big. It was clean, had good service (great breakfast for €5), and the bar was cool. There was a pool table, a hammer game, fair alcohol prices, and other smaller attractions. However, one thing was strange. I talked to 2 people from Vienna who go to the hostel bar to party. I found that a bit strange because they lived in Vienna and probably know cheaper bars. Besides, they don't know anyone there and I wouldn't want to go to a bar with a bunch of strange travelers. Well, their thing.

Back to the hostel: the only downside of the hostel was the Wi-Fi. It was practically non-existent.

In Vienna, I made surprisingly many acquaintances, all of whom were really nice, and I'm glad to have met these people as they contributed to my great journey. However, I am starting to feel that my body no longer wants to travel. It feels weaker and more tired from day to day. I'm already completely exhausted after 4 hours of sightseeing. However, I'm not getting sick.

Also, I'm no longer as motivated to explore the cities as I was at the beginning. Let's see if it gets better.

Next up is Prague!
