Today we have another long drive ahead of us. We drive about 275km in the morning until we reach Eden. There, we walk through the town and the port. We try to spot whales or seals on the sea from Eden Lookout and Rotary Park, but unfortunately, we have no luck. I'm wondering why we keep driving, but Dennis is convinced that it's still 95km to our accommodation for tonight.
Then we continue to the city of Tathra. At Tathra Wharf, we walk along the coast and admire the sparkling sea. We continue to Bermagui and Dennis realizes at our supposed motel that we booked it for the next day. I was right, and today's accommodation is actually in Eden.
So we drive back to Eden from Bermagui. We make a stop in Merimbula and find a really nice restaurant where we have a burger. We notice a man in the restaurant wearing a fluorescent vest with RFA Marshal printed on it. We inquire about its meaning. Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Marshals assist licensees, i.e. the establishments that are allowed to serve alcohol, in ensuring that guests consume alcohol responsibly at their licensed venue and are not supplied with alcohol when they are excessively intoxicated. However, this position seems to only exist in the Australian states of New South Wales and Queensland. So far, we have noticed that the rules regarding alcohol are much stricter than in Germany. There are many public places where the consumption of alcohol is prohibited and the enforcement of the ban is also monitored by cameras. In addition, alcohol can only be purchased and consumed by those over 18. We observe the RSA Marshal for a bit, but eventually we have to drive to our actual motel in Eden. In Eden, we discover a small bar in the evening and taste Australian beer.
