After the wonderful Mekong Delta, we took the night bus for an 8-hour journey to the small mountain town Da Lat.
Arriving early in the morning, we checked into our homestay. The owner was a very lovely young woman who helped us with advice and assistance. Since we only planned to stay one night in Da Lat, we rented a scooter to explore the town.
One thing that immediately stood out when we stepped out the door and were no longer surrounded by air conditioning was how wonderfully pleasant the climate is in the mountains.
Our first stop was the 'Crazy House'. We didn't expect much from it, but we were pleasantly surprised. It is a truly crazy house with clear influences from Gaudi and Tolkien (author of 'The Lord of the Rings'). Charming little details everywhere you look, a labyrinth of curved stairs, and flowers everywhere - simply beautiful to see.
Afterwards, we went to the 'Linh Quang Pagoda'. Impressive, but in our opinion, a bit too much of everything, especially too much color.
In the middle of Da Lat, there is a great lake where most of the life seems to happen. Pedal boats, plenty of restaurants, fishermen, and many people, like us, just watching the hustle and bustle and having a little picnic.
We enjoyed our time in Da Lat and could have stayed a little longer.
