Still waiting for our car and frustrated looking in shops for car stuff (boxes, tools, equipment, emergency stuff, etc.) we decided for a day trip to Kuranda.
We did not take the train or skyrail but went by car to a lookout to take a pic of the Kuranda train arriving at Barron falls station. We expected the train to arrive just after 10am given the time schedule. Well, around 11am only a 'railyway service car' turned up, so lot´s of time to watch the butterflies... About half past 11am then the train finally showed up.
Then we went for a short walk to the lookout of Barron falls before heading to Kuranda itself. Kuranda had quite a few market stalls, but pretty much everything for tourists, so souvenirs etc. We went for a 'passionfruit smoothie' which turned out to be just orange juice with sugar cane, so not very tasty but pricey... The markets are pretty busy as there are many tourists arriving by train or the Cairns Skyrail.
We decided to leave this overpriced & touristy place and head back to Cairns. On the way we stopped at the Cairns lookout for some nice views over the city. Almost back in the city we took a little detour to the Crystal cascade dam before we call it a day.
