Located in the midst of Seoul's skyscrapers and brick buildings, the Gyeongbokgung Palace is the largest of the five palaces built during the Joseon Dynasty. It served as the residence and government seat for the kings of that time. During the Japanese occupation from 1910 to 1945, large parts of the temple were demolished and restructured. Its restoration is ongoing.
