Our safari tour in Yala National Park started early in the morning. After a two-hour drive with the tuk-tuk from Kumbuk River, we switched to a safari jeep at the entrance of the national park. From there, we could admire a breathtaking sunrise. The park was relatively touristy. The drivers communicated via radio when someone spotted an animal, so there were always up to eight jeeps present when an elephant was sighted. At the beginning, we briefly saw an elephant that was hungry and tried to attack the jeeps in the hope of finding something to eat. Later, we saw another elephant by the roadside, munching on leaves from the bushes. We could observe it up close. It was a great moment to experience this huge animal in the wild, and it was the highlight of our day. We also saw monkeys, a crocodile, deer, mongooses, peacocks, wild boars, and other animals. Unfortunately, the leopards were hiding too well. Although we would have liked to see more elephants, we had a great day in the park. We also made a stop at the coast and could admire the kilometer-long beach.
