It's been a long time. It's Saturday evening here, 11:13 pm, and I'm lying in bed. Boredom is setting in. Svenja is, once again, just sleeping. That is, by the way - when she's not eating - her favorite activity. I'm using this time to write a little post for you.
If I'm not completely mistaken, the last update was as follows: Auckland - working as a traffic controller. That's already in the past. In 3 weeks, we worked there for just three days. On two days, we were requested, got up at 5 am, only to be told that they didn't need us after all. 7 people simply don't fit in a car with 5 seats. Once again, everything was perfectly planned. Temp agencies - we were employed by one that then referred us to a company (at best), who needed us as TC - are even worse here in NZ than in DE. I could already get worked up for hours again about the incompetence of the employees, but let's not do that. Anyway, after three weeks of 'working', we were so fed up that even 'nasic nasal spray' wouldn't have helped anymore. So we spontaneously drove 6 hours to the south and now we're back in Hawke's Bay - Hastings/Napier. Actually, we could have stayed here directly and saved all the driving to the South Island for a later, more suitable time. But well, it doesn't matter now.
Svenja and I are currently staying in a hostel that was arranged for us by Pattullo's Nurseries - a company dedicated to apple tree cultivation.
Our work consists of pulling young trees out of the ground - or rather a machine does this - and then removing the roots from the dirt. Then the trees are sorted and tied together in bundles of 10. That's it.
We hope that we can work there long enough to finally save some money. But with our luck... well, let's see what happens.
PS: Attached is a picture of how we backpackers always have to dry our laundry. Just for the constantly complaining mothers, saying that they don't have enough space and doing laundry is sooooo annoying. We can gladly swap. Still love you, mom. 😘
