Flores is a small city in the north of Guatemala, known as the starting point to the Maya city Tikal. It is characterized by the small island in the middle of a lake. Many hotels and restaurants are located here. We booked ourselves at Don Cenobio for 4 nights. A small inexpensive hostel right on the lake with a kitchen, so we could have our family dinners again. I swam through the lake to the other side and back for two days. This week, mustard eggs and pasta a la Jonas Mom were on the menu. On Wednesday, we set off for Tikal at 3:45 am in the morning. We packed porridge and sandwiches and met at the meeting point at 4:30 am for the Early Bird Tour. Tikal overwhelmed us with its numerous Maya pyramids, which were still in great condition and could even be climbed. The city was perfectly located in the jungle, so we dove into explorer mode and our companions were Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. Tikal is the largest and oldest of all Maya sites. Here you can also find the highest pyramid, with a height of 70 meters. The wildlife in the jungle was also very special. Spider monkeys, white-nosed coatis, toucans, and many other birds roamed around us. From the pyramids, you could look out over the jungle and see the tops of the other pyramids here and there.
Off to Mexico 🇲🇽!!!!
