12. Stage Boo de Piélagos to Santillana del Mar

My today's stage goes a bit inland, also nice, I can let my thoughts wander without constantly having to watch the way; if I make a misstep, I wouldn't fall deep like yesterday.

I change into freshly washed clothes, a pleasant laundry service here in the hostel.

Before I start walking, I call Monika, it didn't work the day before yesterday and yesterday....--- I'm in withdrawal.

A surprise awaits me during the video call, Sophie and Lara are with Monika. That feels doubly good. Now I can start my journey strengthened.

My constant companion (the shadow) shows me the way. Peter the Elder and Charly would say: 'Sure, the banker has someone running alongside.'

Just behind Boo de Piélagos is a very well-known railway line among pilgrims, which is often used to shorten the stage. Not only on the signpost, but also in the hostels, it is strongly advised not to use the bridge. I feel good, I take the official route. The local police are already waiting too!

I have to orient myself again and again so that I don't leave the Camino. The signposts are sparse on this stage. Maybe I'm still spoiled by the coastal path yesterday, it was so easy: always the sea on the right and....? --'--

It's quiet, no sound of the sea, I make good progress. I have time to think about 'this and that'.

The highlight of the day is the stage destination, the town of Santillana del Mar. I would describe the town, which I also reach on Sunday, like this: 'Zons am Rhein in best weather'

Now I take it easy, stroll through the historic old town, have my cortado, have dinner and end the day.

In the evening, I walked through the quiet old town again and took some photos.
