DAY 3 Welcome to Vegas
Jet lag is and remains jet lag!
After barely 5 hours of sleep, our little eyes opened again.
A bit tired but curious about what the new day would bring, we took a short shower and headed on foot towards the center of Vegas. Our hotel is a bit outside of the strip, but we decided to walk because you can see so much more of the city that way.
We started our marathon around 7 AM and were surprised to see how many tourists were already sitting or still sitting in front of the slot machines of our hotel. Because there are about 30,000,000 of them in Vegas. It's blinking and glittering everywhere and you are constantly encouraged to just put a bill into the slot and start playing.
It was really difficult for us to resist and soon we sat at one of the colorful machines and started gaming, unfortunately with little success.
After a few rounds, our stomachs started rumbling and the next Subway store didn't wait long. But to our shock, we found that the sandwiches in the US are a bit more generously filled, so it became a little struggle with the veggie-filled baguette.
It was just too much and our stomachs surrendered, next time maybe just half ;)
Our path slowly but surely led us to the heart of Las Vegas and the closer we got to it, the more colorful and impressive it became. The size of each hotel is incredible and it feels like being in a labyrinth of lights and loud music.
Whether you want it or not, you just get swept away and forget what time it is outside when you stroll through the huge casinos and shopping malls. And no matter how much you resist, you can't avoid walking through each hotel, because in Vegas the streets and escalators are built in such a way that you practically HAVE to go through each of the hotels.
Each hotel has its own theme and you feel like you're traveling the whole world on a big street.
We became aware of how big this street/strip is when we reached the halfway point and our feet slowly started to complain, but we had to keep going!
We especially liked THE VENETIAN, a hotel or rather a small city where you can ride small gondolas on the water, visit St. Mark's Square, or sit in one of the small cafes, just like in Venice.
Even the blue sky was unreal :D and it felt like being outside.
After all the strolling, it was time for a bit of action and what could be better than a roller coaster around and through the NEW YORK NEW YORK hotel? So down went the safety bars and off we went on a wild ride through the artificial Big Apple. After that, we were wide awake and it was time for a little snack at Nathan's, what else: Chili Cheese Fries!
We walked and walked, and the strip with all its hotels and casinos seemed to never end, but we stayed strong and finally, after almost 8 km, we reached the "Welcome to fabulous Las Vegas" sign and started taking pictures. It's definitely a tourist trap, but it's a must for every visitor to the sinful city.
After a few photos, we naturally couldn't walk back, we were just too tired. The time difference of 9 hours from Germany can't be shaken off in just one day, but we still had time for a little shopping spree at the Miracle Shops ;)
Back at the hotel, we laid by the pool for an hour and soon our eyes were closing.
But it didn't help, we still had a bit of program for the evening and going to bed early would have been a fatal mistake, otherwise we wouldn't get rid of the jet lag.
A quick shower and off we went by bus to the Freemont Street in Downtown Las Vegas, one of the oldest districts.
Miro still had to redeem his birthday present.
But first, we had some time to kill and of course, we spent it in the casino. We both sat down at the first slot machine we found and the madness of gambling continued, but suddenly Miro's machine just kept ringing and suddenly turned $10 into $30.
You're supposed to stop when it's the most fun, so he cashed out the winnings and off we went to the Slotzilla zip line.
Miro's present was supposed to be connected to action and a short time later we were hanging lying down with our bellies down in a zip line, flying like Batman and Robin across the city. Unfortunately, it was a short but super cool experience. Finally, we took the tour bus to the other end of the city because we really wanted to see the Bellagio water fountains at night. The water show was really great, but unfortunately a bit too short. But you definitely have to see it because it's a classic Vegas attraction.
And with this action-packed evening, our last night in Vegas came to an end.
So close your eyes and see you tomorrow, because that's when our road trip really starts.
It's getting exciting, stay tuned!
