Rain

E hatisitsoe: 10.02.2022

For days, the weather has been very changeable, ranging from sunny to cloudy, mostly dry but occasionally a heavy downpour. The advantage is that it's not so hot, but rather humid. The downside is that it becomes very unpredictable, making it difficult to plan. Longer trips have to be postponed, leaving only a few short and mostly spontaneous actions.

Or you can stay where you are, read a book, browse the internet, or write a blog... if you're not sitting in a café or restaurant. Because even there you can experience a lot just by observing and letting life pass by.

For example, there's the little about 3-year-old daughter of the owners, who proudly and defiantly walks through the shop where I prefer to have breakfast, because I get a pot of tea here. Depending on her mood, she smiles at you or at best ignores you. If she's in a bad mood, she can also look really angry and pout at you. But now we usually get a smile. Sometimes she also comes to us and looks at what interesting things we have to offer. Apparently, she took a liking to my small collapsible travel reading glasses and the corresponding silver case, which she curiously and intensively examined. She was busy with it for a while and I wondered if I would ever get the glasses back undamaged, but my concern was completely unfounded. After a thorough examination, she gave me back the glittering thing. She also watched a clip from the show with the mouse with great concentration, which Darshi showed her on his tablet, only to then turn her attention to other more interesting things.

However, she is very enthusiastic about riding her mother's scooter. She climbs onto the footboard in front of the seat and holds onto the two holders of the rearview mirror, just tall enough to look over the handlebars.

The sports aces in the gym opposite always offer a lot of entertainment. They come racing in on their scooters, of course with sunglasses and wireless headphones. Hardly anyone walks around there without the button in their ear, lifting weights, rowing or boxing. Of course, you run in the fat running shoes, but when it's time to get back on the scooter, hardly anyone wears the sacred shoes, they are preserved for indoors. Besides, shoes are for wimps. Those who care for themselves defy the small stones on the asphalt and walk barefoot.

Every day, a mobile kitchen on 3 wheels stops in front of the fruit stand next door, a moped with an attached cargo area, a kind of converted sidecar. These tricycles are seen very often here. They serve as transporters for goods of all kinds, family vehicles or as mobile shops or fast food stands. Lapis, one of the Greeks in the resort in Mae Haad, swears by the vegetable soup that is offered there, among other things. However, what the vegetable seller next door allows to be ladled into her bowl is not necessarily to my taste, especially not so early in the morning. I'm pretty sure I spotted a chicken foot in the brown broth, not to mention the other undefinable stuff.

Yesterday, one of these three-wheeled and covered multifunctional vehicles stopped in front of our breakfast observation point and delivered empty crates to the café across the street. However, it had just started to rain heavily, which didn't stop the significantly overweight man from doing his job. Calmly, he stomped through the puddles in his completely different Crocs. When his t-shirt was completely soaked from the rain, he took it off, with his massive belly spilling over his waistband, and lovingly draped it over his dog, which he had tied to his sidecar. It was supposed to protect the dog from the rain, but I doubt that the dog liked it so much. Soaking wet and unaffected by the rain or my thoughts, the man sat back on his vehicle, which looked tiny under his huge body. In the process, his three-quarter pants almost slipped over his backside, which bulged out of the pants and turned into a hairy back. In any case, he seemed to care about his really beautiful dog, who let everything, whether rain or wet t-shirt, happen without being impressed.

Another rainy day, and that probably won't change for a while. Luckily, the most important needs can be satisfied nearby. Restaurants and cafés are all in close proximity, as is the sea if you want to quickly jump in between two showers. We even experienced our first beach day today, otherwise it's too hot, especially since the few shaded areas are usually taken. Today, however, the beach was completely empty, even the beach chairs were unoccupied and shade was not necessary because the sky was full of dark clouds. So we decided to make ourselves comfortable on the beach instead of in the hammock in front of the hut, including espresso or beer for Darshi.

The colors of the sea changed constantly, as did the sky, as the clouds moved quickly.

A storm came up from Koh Samui, and we could see the impenetrable curtain of rain that moved in front of the island and made it disappear behind it. In the further course, this rain front even temporarily formed a fully developed waterspout at sea. I had never seen anything like it before. We watched with interest the path of the twister, which dissipated after about 10 minutes. Instead, it now started to rain heavily with us as well, so we ultimately had to abruptly end our beach day.

Slowly but surely, this is taking on monsoon-like conditions. Everything gets muddy, slushy. The puddles don't dry out and small lakes form on the street, which hinder traffic and make walking a risky endeavor. Either you risk getting splashed by passing cars or you risk getting injured trying to walk around the lakes. That's why we're currently taking the scooter even for short distances.

Nevertheless, even under these circumstances, the eye sometimes finds something conspicuous or bizarre. Like the footprints in the road surface that someone apparently left before the concrete hardened. And because his dog followed him, the dog's pawprints have also been immortalized.
