On Sunday we drove from San Martin de los Andes to San Carlos de Bariloche. That is about 230 kilometers and you drive along the 7 Lakes Route. As you can see on the map photo, there are more than seven lakes along the way. We counted and photographed twelve on our route and they were all extremely beautiful. It took us almost seven hours in total because we stopped, looked, and marveled along the way. The route passes through two national parks, Parque Nacional Lanin and Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi, and two provinces, Neuquen and Rio Negro. We took a longer break at Lago Hermoso, where we had homemade lemonade and good coffee at the small restaurant by the lake. So now Bariloche. We are in the Argentine Switzerland and it looks exactly like that here. There is chocolate, cake, and ice cream in every other shop on the main street, as well as restaurants that offer fondue and lots of outdoor stores. Jutta is still looking for a warm jacket. Let's see if she finds one here today. We were already here on our first trip to Argentina in 2010, and a certain ice cream parlor has been indelibly etched in my brain ever since. So of course, we had to go there again and the taste experience was fantastic. I admit, this ice cream parlor, along with the 7 Lakes Route, is the reason we came here in the first place. It's only logical that we visit it again today. Photos of it will follow a bit later, we didn't take any yesterday. Besides shopping and eating ice cream, we're taking it easy today. Tomorrow we'll be driving back to Chile across the border by car.
