In the night, we made short stops in Batsfjord and Vardo, and in the early morning, we reach Vadso. Around 9 o'clock, we arrive in the wintry cold Kirkenes, the turning point of our journey. Until 1996, most of the residents made a living from iron ore mining. Today, the main livelihood of the 10,000 inhabitants is fishing and the service sector. In the afternoon, we start our southbound route towards Vardo, Batsfjord, and Berlevag. Today, we also get to admire some northern lights before Berlevag. As is the tradition in Norway, we will enjoy a Christmas cake buffet tonight and tomorrow night.
