San Pedro de Atacama
We arrived in San Pedro de Atacama and it was extremely hot. Along the way, we saw beautiful scenery. The village is mostly made up of adobe buildings. We noticed that most people were tourists and there weren't many locals. We found our hostel and checked in for one night, but ended up staying for the whole week because we loved it so much. The hostel was uniquely decorated and we would describe it as "fancy" but not everyone would agree. In the evening, we went out to eat and had the biggest empanada we've ever had in our lives.
The next day, we explored the charming village. The streets were lit with warm and cozy lights, there was music playing everywhere, and we saw people of all ages. The food was delicious and the activities were fun. We also went stargazing at night and the sky was amazing. We had a great time in San Pedro de Atacama.
In the morning, we went on a bike ride to the Cejar Lagoon, a saltwater lake in the middle of the desert. We had been trying to swim in such a lake for 23 years, and finally, we got the chance. We rode on old, bumpy roads and it was an exhilarating experience. When we arrived at the lagoon, we jumped into the water and it felt amazing. We floated like empty bottles and had so much fun.
We could only stay in the water for 45 minutes because it was freezing cold. The experience was incredible and we had a great time.
The next day, we went on an organized tour to explore the sights. We visited Moon Valley, which looked like the surface of the moon with its white salt crust. We also went to other interesting places and enjoyed the breathtaking views.
In the evening, we went out for dinner and coincidentally ran into a friend from a previous trip. It was a funny and creepy coincidence. The next day, we went on a day tour to see more amazing sights, including the Chaxa Lagoon where we saw hundreds of flamingos.
We had a great time and took many photos. We also had a delicious breakfast and enjoyed the beautiful views. Our tour guide took us to different places and we had spontaneous stops along the way.
We had a fun group and decided to go for drinks after the tour. We ended up drinking 20 liters of beer and had a memorable night.
See you soon,
Ernesto and Muriel
