At still very pleasant late summer temperatures we spent our last vacation in 2018 from the beginning to the middle of October at the northern Garda Lake in Naag-Turbel, the neighboring village of Riva del Garda.
We chose the northern region of Lake Garda because the lake is still surrounded by higher mountains here, so you can go hiking and enjoy the view over the lake.
Our holiday resort Naag-Turbel has a very beautiful colorful old town directly on the lake. There you can watch many surfers who take advantage of the prevailing wind.
On a rainy day we made a trip to the Scaliger Castle in Malcesine, where there is also an interesting natural history museum with information about Lake Garda.
Mainly we were hiking again at Lake Garda and did some nice tours.
Around Lake di Ledro: About 600 m above Lake Garda is Lake Ledro. The beautiful panorama of the lake with a view of the surrounding mountains invites you to take a walk along the shore for about 10 kilometers around the entire lake.
Monte Altissimo di Nago: Starting from Boca del Creer you hike on easy, grassy paths first to the summit cross of Monte Campo and enjoy a beautiful view into the Adige Valley. Then you continue uphill, on paths that are not necessarily always well signposted. It is only at the top of Monte Altissimi di Nago that the view over the entire Lake Garda opens up.
Hike to Cima Pari: Our ascent started relatively steeply in the forest for some time, so unfortunately there was no view of the surrounding mountains and landscape. After leaving the forest after three kilometers of ascent, we stopped at the Rifugio Nino Pernici and fortified ourselves for the further ascent to Cima Pari. From there you could enjoy the panorama of the Pichea cliffs during the snack. After that, we continued uphill, on less steep paths, until we reached the rest area Bocca Saval, from where we could see our destination. After two long and exhausting turns, we were able to enjoy the 360° panorama on Cima Pari about three quarters of an hour later.
Hike on Sentiero Panoramico & Busatte-Tempesta: Starting from our hotel, we walked to the starting point of the hike where you walk along the west slope of Monte Altissimo di Nago above the lake. On partly elaborate staircases mounted on the rocky cliffs with about 400 steps, you can enjoy the view over Lake Garda.
Hike to Monte Bestone: Above Limone, we started from a hotel parking lot to Monte Bestone. After getting lost several times because there was no path to be seen at all, we finally found the very steep and overgrown final ascent. On top of the free summit of Monte Bestone, we were rewarded with a beautiful panoramic view over the lake and the Monte Baldo massif.
Hike in Marocche di Dro: In the biotope in the Valle dei Laghi there are several large stone accumulations from prehistoric times. There is a hiking trail through the stones and scree, which was easy to find for us on the way there, but we couldn't find the entrance to our return path, so after several unsuccessful attempts we walked back the same way. Along the way, you have a beautiful view of the Sarca Valley.
Visit to Parco Grotta Cascata Varone. In the Varone Caves, the waterfall inside the cave is colorfully illuminated. There is a lower and upper viewpoint in the cave, with the upper viewpoint getting you wetter than the lower one. All in all, this park is very small and, in my opinion, not necessarily worth the entrance fee.
Riva del Garda also impresses with its colorful and well-preserved old town directly on the lake, where it is worth taking a short break in one of the many cafés and enjoying the view of the lake
