For the first time in the streets of Amsterdam!

Publikuar: 20.07.2017

Hello guys!
I finally found some time now (it's 9:30 PM) and I'm writing to you from my hostel bed.
Let me start with yesterday. After waiting in the hostel until 2 PM to check into my room, I finally got to do it and I was really excited to see my room. Of course, I was super curious about my roommates, but to my disappointment, I only found a bit of chaos and two suitcases. The chaos didn't bother me though, because I'm not any better myself (right, Mom?). So, I took a shower and changed my clothes. As soon as I felt like a decent person again, I went out of the hostel because I wanted to explore the city. Since I had already decided to join a city tour tomorrow, I wanted to make the most of the remaining time yesterday and intentionally get lost. What? Intentionally get lost? Yes, exactly. By that I mean just wandering through the streets, getting on any bus or train, and just taking in everything. I had never been to Amsterdam before and I had absolutely no idea about the center, so whenever I came across streets where something was going on, I wondered if that could be the center. With the knowledge I have now, I can say - no, that was absolutely not the center - luckily. The streets were beautiful though, but yesterday I still found Heidelberg much more beautiful than Amsterdam. However, there was no question that Amsterdam is a great city. Just the many cyclists and all the friendly people already make Amsterdam beautiful. I went back to the hostel at 6 PM, got my book, and went out again. My hostel is located right next to a beautiful park, so I made myself comfortable there and read for about two hours. But when my stomach started growling so loud from hunger that I was afraid someone else might hear it, I got back on the train to make it happy again. However, I have to say that here (unlike Heidelberg) I couldn't find a single vegan restaurant, so I went to the Asian place again. The food there was really delicious and the portion was huge, and the value for money was more than good. By the way, the Thai girl was super cute, she kept singing the whole time and was just so happy. Besides me, there was only one young man at the Asian restaurant, who is from Los Angeles, and in the end, we became a funny trio. While I talked about my time in California, he mentioned that he used to live in Germany and now he might want to live somewhere in Asia for a while. Feeling full and happy, I headed back to the hostel around 10 PM. My two roommates were still not there, but I wasn't alone. Hiral opened the door for me. You probably want to know who Hiral is, right? Hiral is my new roommate and she comes from India. She looks like she's 25 and acts like it too, but she's actually 31 years old. From her, I learned that the other two girls are from Australia and they are already leaving tomorrow. Since Hiral had just arrived, she wanted to freshen up, so I just grabbed my sweater and went outside. There were quite a few Americans sitting there, and as you may already know, my heart beats strongly for young Americans. Whether girl or boy, I always get along incredibly well with them, and this time was no exception. I made friends right away and so my first evening in Amsterdam ended with a pretty awesome rap by Yomi (who is from Washington, D.C.). Back in the room, I finally met the other two girls. They were really nice too, but I was pretty tired, so I fell asleep quickly and didn't notice much about them. But I do know that they are traveling to Berlin next and they were in Spain before, and they are 24 years old. By the way, the weather was really nice all day, it was warm and sunny.
So, that was my first day in Amsterdam.

Since this post got longer than I thought, I'll tell you about today in a separate post. I wish you a good night and I hope you enjoyed the post. (By the way, I don't feel safe with the German language anymore, because I speak in English all the time here and my switch in my head has turned from German to English. I hope you don't notice too much)

See you soon, lovely human!
