La daabacay: 12.08.2022
Initially, we planned to go to the Bugaboos and even booked the Conrad Kain hut way in advance. But much to our regret, there was still an awful lot of snow in the area, which made it impossible to even get to the hut. Therefore, we had to reschedule the next days and decided to have a look at Kootenay National Park instead.
We drove all the way through the park from Radium Hot Springs to Lake Louise. We stopped at Sinclair Canyon, Olive Lake, Kootenay Valley Viewpoint and Numa Falls. Though the best was hiking from Paint Pots to Marble Canyon. The iron-rich, orange to red coloured soil in contrast with the green grass looks somehow unreal. The aboriginals actually used the ochre from these small ponds for painting and dyeing. Marble Canyon was also pretty impressive, as it is narrow but deeply cut in. Like the days before, it was very hot, so we took a refreshing swim in Herbert Lake in the evening. Delightful!
