Caribbean feeling on the border with Panama

La daabacay: 04.06.2018

Directly on the border with Panama, you will find the two small villages of Capurganá and Sapzurro. Little known among travelers but very popular among the locals.

The journey is lengthy, complicated, and can only be done by bus and boat. But it is worth it: behind the two villages, you will find dreamy beaches, jungle, and palm trees, secluded and peaceful. There are no "gringos" (as tourists are commonly called by the locals) in the towns, and there is no noise. There are also no cars; instead, things are transported by horse-drawn carriages and donkey carts. The power is even cut off at night.

This little Caribbean paradise immediately captured my heart. I brought Joram and his brother Mathias along, and when we heard about a dive school on-site, we signed up for the advanced diving course.

Diving and swimming at the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen. The water is warm, crystal clear, and full of fish and beautiful coral. With a coconut and freshly squeezed Jugo de Lulo (my new favorite juice), I let the sun shine on my belly and swung in the beach hammock for hours. What a life!

In a 2-hour hike through the jungle, we crossed the border to Panama on foot and reached the beach "la Miel". The effort was worth it: the beach was breathtaking!
