La daabacay: 10.10.2018
After a rather short night due to snoring roommates, I went for breakfast. I was a bit surprised when I stepped outside: it was snowing and about 10 degrees colder than the previous day.
For breakfast, I chose a restaurant that the lady who swapped seats with me on the plane had recommended: Melissa's MisSTEAK.
And since I'm in Canada, of course, I also selected pancakes with maple syrup. They were really delicious, but the portion was (as always here in Canada) way too big.
After breakfast, I walked back to the hostel to pack some things for my first tour, Banff National Park with Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.
At 1:30 pm, I was greeted at the meeting point by Pam, our tour guide for the day. We took a small bus towards Lake Louise. Unfortunately, Pam had some bad news for our tour. The road to Moraine Lake was closed until April due to ice and snow. Although this is normal, it was supposed to stay open for an additional week. But after last week's snowstorm, there was no other option but to close the road for safety reasons. As compensation, we made stops at some viewpoints that are not usually included in the tour.
When we arrived at Lake Louise, it was still snowing a bit and unfortunately, it was a bit cloudy. Nevertheless, the view is breathtaking!!
The photos capture the richness of colors of the lake quite well, but nothing beats seeing it in person. I would recommend everyone to come here at least once in their life and admire the beautiful lakes.
During the tour, I met an Australian guy from the Gold Coast and we walked around the lake together. What was especially funny is that it was his first time seeing snow and he was completely thrilled when I explained that you can also eat snow. Of course, he tried it immediately.
After an informative ride back, during which Pam told us a lot about bears, elk, and moose, I went back to the hostel.
By now, four of my roommates had checked out, but I didn't have to wait long as three new ones arrived. They are three girls from Halifax (Canada), we started talking and went out to eat together. Two of them are currently in their medical internship to become doctors. It was definitely a nice end to an eventful day.
