Cars don't belong on ships, they belong on the road. Okay, in our case maybe more off-road. But to get there, we have to cover a lot of distance.
Unfortunately, the weather is not being cooperative and it's raining constantly. It's not so bad when you're in the car. But when you have a dog, you have to go outside from time to time. Disgusting...
Our first overnight stop towards the west is in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the gravel parking lot of a nature reserve. A final walk with the dog in the growing darkness, and then quickly into the heated Defender. A small snack and then the relief.....finally back on our mattress instead of an American foam-spring-jumping-around mattress.
Quiet time from 7 pm to 4 am. Our sleeping schedule is completely messed up. In the dawn, a walk with the dog. Again, the reminder. Hikers have the right of way over mountain bikers, and bears have the right of way over both. The big bear spray is highly recommended as the black bears are still quite active.
Then we continue driving to Nashville, where we somehow look lost on the campsite with our Defender. After all, the RVs and trailers are at least 2.5 times longer. First attempt at baking bread with the Omnia and the newly acquired Jetboil cooker, which you can't get outside of the USA. Finally, proper bread. They don't know how to make it here. Other than that, a sleep record of nearly 11 hours, which is perfectly fine for someone who usually takes 6-7 hours.
