Time flies. It's been five days already and we had a great time in Underberg. Our hostel was located in the middle of the mountains, so we had easy access to the mountains, which we fully took advantage of on the second day. We decided not to book a tour and explore the mountains on our own. I would be lying if I said I felt comfortable the whole time. We were completely alone somewhere in the middle of nowhere at about 2000m altitude on the border to Lesotho. The 'hiking trails' were not always clearly marked, so we got lost a couple of times. But the nature, the tranquility, and the view were unbeatable. Everywhere you looked, just mountains, occasionally a bird or some wild horses. I don't think there's more nature than that.
On the third day, we hiked about 10 km, which is about half of the day before. In the afternoon, we enjoyed a horse ride including a view of the sunset. As most of you know, horses and I are not the best of friends, but I have to revise my opinion. It was really beautiful and I even felt comfortable on the back of 'Baby socks', even though the route was sometimes very steep and bumpy. When we reached the highest point, we enjoyed a beer, crackers, and cheese.
Since the temperatures drop from 28 degrees in the afternoon to 5 degrees at night, we enjoyed the evenings with tired legs in front of a burning fireplace on the couch.
With many impressions, our journey now continues in Coffee Bay.
