The early bird our best friend. Unlike yesterday, today we want to walk through the city in the morning to avoid the expected rain. Our plan for today: walking the Coastal Walkway from Bondi Beach to Coogee Beach.
As planned, we drive to Bondi Beach, where we stop at a fruit store on the way to have breakfast. The Acai Bowl with banana, strawberry and granola is fantastic.
Arriving at Bondi Beach, we start the Coastal Walkway. This path winds along the beaches/coves on the east side of the city. Here we will probably get a taste of what we will experience in Australia in the coming weeks: beautiful beaches, waves, AND sunshine. Even though no weather forecast has predicted sunshine for today, it is there. Good thing we have sunscreen in our backpack because the sun starts to break through the clouds right at the beginning of our walk. Well then, we'll stroll at 30 degrees.
When we reach the end of the path, we take the bus that takes us to Surry Hills. This neighborhood was recommended to us by our guide from the previous day, who mentioned the multicultural atmosphere and the many international cafes and restaurants. We end up in a colorful Mexican restaurant. Interesting combination of dishes that taste good. What more could you want?!
Even on the way back home, we can stroll through the streets of the neighborhood in the sunshine. As we approach our accommodation, the sky darkens and thunder begins. We are happy. Today we did everything right: our timing is perfect. I am currently sitting dry and tired on our accommodation's covered balcony during the thunderstorm and writing this entry. When you explore a city like Sydney on foot, you only realize how exhausting the day was when you sit for a longer period of time... You can easily walk 15 kilometers in half a day.
Tomorrow we want to take a day trip to the Blue Mountains and go hiking there.
