Midges, heat and violins

La daabacay: 30.08.2016

Today we visited the school where we will be working for the first time.

We had to take a bus for about 1 hour to get there. These are the famous Bulies from the 80s (I think).

Fortunately, the son of the school principal and a girl from our apartment came with us, otherwise we probably wouldn't have arrived so well.

The traffic rules are not clear to me, except: whoever has the loudest horn honks the most!

Fortunately, we arrived safely and were warmly welcomed and put into the ventilated office, with the statement: take a break first!

Anna and I have already noticed that a lot of emphasis is placed on our well-being.

Yesterday, for example, we wanted to go to school with Dominik, but it turned into more of a day off ... not ordered ... well, you know what I mean.

It's really hot and in addition, we have to wear long pants and t-shirts at school. But I doubt that I would sweat less in different clothes....

After a pleasant break, even with Wi-Fi, we were taken to each classroom and 'had' to introduce ourselves :D . Fortunately, Dominik had already warned us, as he had gone through the whole procedure yesterday.

The children were all very nice, some even got up to hug us and welcome us.

During lunch, we helped with the food distribution. Since there are not enough seats for everyone, the children ate in several groups. Today we had mashed potatoes with meat and melon.

After lunch, all the tables and chairs were moved aside, as the open, covered space also serves as a gymnasium and orchestra room.

This year we will teach English in the morning and music in the afternoon.

Now the instruments were brought out and everything was set up for the orchestra rehearsal. When tuning the violins, I was quickly asked if I could help, and Dominik and Anna also helped tune.

Before the rehearsals started, the other violin teacher asked me if I can help a girl who has never played the violin before.

I also found it very difficult to play the violin at first because the bow was missing rosin, which helps the bow glide and grip well on the strings. Luckily, I got some :D

The girl seemed a bit disinterested because she didn't really look at me. Additionally, I could only show her what I meant because my Spanish is still not very good..

But gradually I noticed that she also tried things on her own and practiced again and again. In the end, she was even able to play the first 2 bars of the song that the orchestra was practicing. (Apart from that, the orchestra wasn't much further either)

While packing up, a boy distributed small drink packets. They said Leche- which means milk- but when I took a sip, I was very surprised. Strange... it tastes like juice...!? It seems it was, somewhere in small letters it also said that on the packaging.

On the way home, we realized how urgently we needed to shower ;)

Now I'm sitting comfortably in our living room (I will definitely take more photos) and I'm starting to get really hungry. But fortunately, there is a meal plan here, so you never have to worry about your food :D

Oh yeah... now the mosquitoes don't play a role in this blog ... here we have mosquitos and yes, I have bites.... a lot of them...!!

Okay, now I'm also finished.. :D ....... for today ;)

Adiós !
