01.06.2023 The golden circle

La daabacay: 02.06.2023

It was time for another excursion, starting off with a visit to a nearby geothermal powerplant.

There they explained how the natural heated water is used to warm homes and generate eco-friendly energy.

The water gets heated up to 80°-100° by volcanic activity. The pools were considered to be deadly and dangerous death traps until they learned how to use it properly.

Then we started the golden circle tour, which had a lot more tourists than the ones we went to before. But still, some beautiful spots.

First was a huge crater and next up a gigantic waterfall. The drive was a lot of fun, it was just Me, Ben, Felix, Helen, and Clemence in the car and it created a very entertaining atmosphere.

Next up was an active geysirfield where water would burst out of the ground from time to time. It had a very strong egg smell in the air from the sulfur and an alien-looking landscape.

There were warning signs everywhere about the water being up to 100° and steam was rising up everywhere.

At the end, we visited two shifting tectonic plates that were slowly moving apart over the years and you could walk through the gap.

It was a nice trip which we finished with a late movie night as soon as we got back home.

We watched Princess Mononoke which is a very cool Studio Ghibli film that is a bit strange but basically warns about not killing the environment, so I would say it's quite on topic.

Tomorrow we gotta get up early again to go to the eco village.
