From Mafia, we went via Dar Es Salaam to Kilimanjaro Airport. There I meet my group for my last big adventure of this trip. Together with my sponsor Roger and 10 other Swiss people, we want to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.
Today, the group had the opportunity to get to know each other and get used to the African weather with a city walk in Marangu.
Together with a local guide, we walked through various fields and plantations.
Here, mainly bananas and coffee are grown.
Our guide also told us a lot about the different plants and customs associated with them. From the fields, we then went to a market.
Since today was Christmas day and the main religion in this city is Christianity, there wasn't much going on. Everyone is at home with their families. Since it was also very hot, we decided to treat ourselves to a refreshment in a bar. On the way back to the hotel, we passed by a church and a school.
After lunch, we received information about the trekking from the tour guide, which starts tomorrow. We used the afternoon to pack our luggage, what goes with us on the mountain and what stays here. What is given to the porter and what goes in the day backpack.
After dinner, we all sat together again and enjoyed the last beer. Tomorrow it starts. Everyone is excited, no one really knows what to expect in the next few days.
