Mexican Caribbean

La daabacay: 07.01.2020

As already mentioned, I was down for a few days and still not completely recovered.

Not much happened during these days, I slept a lot and watched movies and ate snacks and drank tea. I had hoped to be spared, after Lia, then Nico and then Lia's dad Carlos got sick, mom Martha got it in the end and so did I. Sweating it out and drinking tea helped enough that I became fit to fly again and so we took off on 04.01.💪

The flight was a horror. Seriously. First, it was said that we would arrive earlier because we were ahead of schedule. Then an announcement came that there was traffic congestion at Cancun airport, so we had to circle. That meant we had to fly through a thunderstorm front twice, I repeat: twice. You can surely imagine how much joy the little children in the front rows had with the ups and downs, the rattling, and the air pockets, and how little I did. I had only one glass of wine before, but I pulled myself together after realizing that Eduardo (he told me before that he didn't have a fear of flying) was feeling much worse than me. 🤮

Of course, we finally landed safely in the end, and oh miracle: it was raining in Cancún again. It must be me 😂

After finally getting a rental car, we continued towards Playa del Carmen. Our hosts were still eating, so we did the same and found ourselves in a funny restaurant themed after Mexican wrestling. I had the biggest mojito of my life, and it was very good. 🍹

Our hosts are really nice and can give us good tips. The room is nice, the apartment complex is secured by a gate, and there are four pools on the premises. You pay about 600€ for a three-room apartment plus a large kitchen-living room here. 😱
