August 1st is approaching and with it a long weekend. The good weather forecast and the longing for a change of scenery tempt us to the French-speaking part of Switzerland. We set off in pouring rain. First stop at the motorway service area 'La Gruyère' with a view of the beautiful Lake Gruyère. Refreshed, we headed towards Gruyère with the aim of visiting the 'Cheese Factory'. Unfortunately, we were too late for a guided tour, but we had a glimpse of André's favorite cheese in a well-stocked warehouse. We continued to the medieval town of Gruyère, which we had to reach on foot from the parking lot. A picture-perfect backdrop of this Gruyère with flower-decorated houses, festival benches for August 1st, and Meringue with double cream for dessert. After a downpour, we finally made our way to the hotel in Fribourg. We were greeted by a charming beau. André once again made a great choice of hotel. We then headed to Fribourg in search of a restaurant, which proved to be difficult on a Sunday. Eventually, hunger led us to Boccolino, a mix of hunting lodge, Thai service staff, and patriotic Swiss flags. At least the pizza satisfied us.
The next morning we were treated to petit déjeuner by the beau. However, breakfast at André's is and remains the beeeeeest!!! Strengthened, we continued to Moléson. Should we take the cogwheel train or prefer to walk? We decided on the latter and climbed Moléson in record time, panting quite heavily, and were rewarded with the most beautiful views of Lake Neuchâtel, Lake Geneva, and Lake Biel. Wow - that was beautiful! A summit kiss was a must.
At Lake Gruyère, we recovered from a wonderful day in the French-speaking part of Switzerland with a delicious ice cream.
