Hello dear ones,
I can finally get back to you. The last few days were rather weak when it comes to the internet. And as you may have noticed, I have switched to writing my entries with my mobile phone, as it has become even more difficult to find a computer. But back to the main topic. After enjoying my time in Wanka, as already hinted at in the last blog entry, I have driven back towards Fox Glacier. This time the weather was incredibly beautiful and I really enjoyed the drive along the lakes and the coast. Quite a few times I had to force myself to look at the road and not admire the scenery. The weather at Fox Glacier was still good, so I took the opportunity and drove to the glacier car park. From there I walked through an impressive gorge towards the glacier. The whole time I was walking along a river and it looked like I had to go through the river at times. No wonder the glacier was closed last time due to all the rain. But oh well. The trail was once again very beautiful and this time it felt like I was at the same altitude as the glacier, although about 400m away. After this hike, I used the remaining daylight and drove to my campsite for the night. It was located right next to Gillespies Beach. After a short exploration tour and a trip to the beach, I had dinner and prepared my accommodation for the night. As always when camping, the day is over as soon as the sun goes down and you, or at least I, retreat to my car.
The next morning (21.09) I drove to the nearby Lake Matheson. There is a nice circular path here and at one point, the Alps are reflected in the lake. Unfortunately, the weather didn't quite play along. It was cloudy and slightly windy, but the walk was still very nice.
That's all from Fox Glacier. In the next post, I will tell you about how small the world can be and how a trip into nature can incredibly boost the mood.
Until then,
Your Jessi
