08 to Montélimar

La daabacay: 20.09.2024

Route 100 kilometers, cum. 590 kilometers | Elevation 260, cum. 2,010 meters, distance to home 400 kilometers

I recovered well from my fall yesterday and slept very well and for a long time. And so I was ready to go again at 8 a.m. This time I cycled anti-clockwise around the city. Unfortunately, there is no cycle path there and I had to ride on the busy road to the Rhone and then cross the river on the cycle path on the main bridge.
Just like yesterday, my tour then went almost exclusively on cycle paths. I was particularly surprised that the paths often had a good surface and the roads next to them had a natural surface. I must add, however, that these were only unimportant roads, mostly for maintenance or as feeder roads.
It was cool and foggy in the morning, but the sun kept shining through and so I was still hoping for another sunny day.
The size of the Rhone amazed me. I last saw it on my hike around Lake Geneva. Compared to here, it can be described as a small river there. I had to cross it several times on impressive bridges. I therefore estimate the width of the Rhone to be around three hundred meters.
As always, I took my first break after 30 kilometers. By chance, there was a nice rest area shortly after that, which, together with a little refreshment, gave me the strength for the next 20 kilometers, i.e. until the big break at around 12 o'clock. This gives the ride a certain structure and I can look forward to the next break. However, that doesn't mean that I don't take any other breaks. But when I do, they are only short breaks, usually to take a photo.
In the afternoon, there are only spontaneous breaks to drink or just to sit somewhere in the shade. So I reach my destination sometime between 3 and 5 o'clock. I usually reward myself with a cold beer, as there is no one to offer it to me. 🤣
