The N 103 takes us along the lake with fantastic views. We turn off towards Mentosa and then we go down a very steep road to Vila Gueres in an hour and a half.
My back already hurts in the morning – it turns out to be sore muscles from cornering…!
Vila do Gueres is the starting point for climbers, hikers and canoeists and is located in the middle of the Serra do Gueres Nature Park. We take a short hike (1.5 km) into the town along the steep slope. There are flowers everywhere and water trickles down the slopes! After a small coffee we head back along the Rua de Termas.
A 6 km long narrow stretch of road known as Zona de Transito condocionafo leads towards Spain. Stopping is prohibited here. A charming area!
Across the Spanish border to Lubios and back into Portugal to Lindoso. We admire 64 granaries from the 18th century and a castle right next door.
We fortify ourselves in a small place and drive on to Ponte de Barca. We park in a spacious car park on the banks of the Rio Lima. Here you will find one of the oldest bridges in Portugal. We explore the old town, have an aperitif and then have a delicious meal at O Minho, located right next to a waterfall.
