After Puerto Escondido, San Cristóbal de las casas was a nice change. Due to its altitude of about 2100m, it was a bit cooler, especially at night. The town reminded me a bit of Oaxaca, which apparently not only noticed by me. On the first day, I went exploring the nearby caves with an Austrian couple who invited me at the last minute.
The next day, I mainly explored the city itself, which seemed very inviting with its narrow alleys and surprised me with a colorful market. In the evening, I was on the terrace with the hostel staff and tried to speak a little Spanish, but luckily I was constantly brought up to date in English.
Today I took the bus again to Palenque, this time driving the 10 hours during the day to enjoy the view, which unfortunately was a little spoiled by the rain.
Now I'm in a hostel surrounded by the jungle, where I unfortunately see nothing yet, but I can hear it.
