What does 'Almodóvar' have to do with 'Game of Thrones'?

When I read the name of the place 'Almodóvar del Rio', I immediately thought of 'Talk to Her', 'The Skin I Live In', or 'Volver', Penélope Cruz and Antonio Banderas. I had to Google it right away at home (oops ... new train of thought) - no connection ... Pedro was born, raised, etc. somewhere else and I thought I was close on his trail ... no luck! But who do we meet here instead in the most beautiful castle in Spain? Jaime Lannister!!! ... looking for Lady Olenna Tyrell. The scenes of the Rose Garden were filmed here for 'Game of Thrones'. I haven't seen many series, but I really liked this one.

But the castle also has an interesting history; Moors and Christians, caliphs and ... well, the usual, changing here until no one wanted to pay anymore. Then a 12th Count of Torralva came and invested his fortune and his last 34 years of life in this castle. He simply fulfilled his dream. But it is also incredible to see what he rebuilt here from 1903. The castle is just amazing! And besides a few tourists, several school classes frolic happily, guided by castle ladies and jesters.

We enjoyed the bike ride through the green and red (earth), hilly landscape behind Cordoba... it was an interlude between two great cities: Seville (behind us) and Cordoba (ahead of us). At this point, a warning about the next batch of pictures ... it will be really exhausting for you ,-)
