La daabacay: 19.01.2017
After it didn't work out yesterday, the circumnavigation of the lake took place clockwise today in slightly worse weather.
The first approximately 50 km were unspectacular, as they are on the highway and you can't see the lake at all.
Afterwards, there is a place called Puerto Octay, which is now somewhat run-down, as its heyday has long since passed. It should be known that until the mid-1950s, there was no road around the lake, and transportation from place to place was done by steamships, and the center of this shipping traffic was precisely Puerto Octay.
Although the town is a bit rundown, I spent almost 2 hours there because it exuded an incredible tranquility. I have the impression that people move there even slower than anywhere else, which I found incredibly calming. In addition, there was a small but fine museum there, which explains the founding history, in which Germans also made significant contributions, with exhibits.
Further around the lake, there was a cow parade to see, to endure a police check, which developed into a small talk with the Carabiniero about Chile and the best places to visit there, as well as the obligatory hitchhiker, who mumbled so much that I soon ended the conversation...
Not to forget the Laguna Verde, the green (not blue!) lagoon on the lake, where there was a long walk where I stretched my legs a bit.
This day also flew by... tomorrow I will go to Puerto Montt to drop off the car and at 4:00 pm take a ship from Navimag (http://www.navimag.com/site/blog/category/multimedia/multimedia-imagenes/#leaf) to travel another 1000 km south to Puerto Natales in 3 days and 3 nights through the Patagonian fjords and the Gulf of Penas. There is no internet on the ship, I am curious how that will be, as well as the experience of sleeping in a cabin with 3 complete strangers, although I think the other 3 have drawn the more difficult lot: -)
Hasta luego...
