The opera about the dinner

La daabacay: 02.11.2018

11:00 start of the tour through the Sydney Opera House.

The building that is always immediately associated with Australia.

In 1956, the design proposal of the young Danish architect Jørn Utzon prevailed in a competition. Construction began in 1959. Utzon, a lover of concrete, can be seen everywhere here. The roof surfaces are covered with self-cleaning beige tiles, in matte and glossy.

In 1966, construction came to a standstill for 2 years due to disputes among the parties involved. This seems to happen more often in major projects, see Elbphilharmonie and Berlin Airport.

The construction costs of the opera house increased by a factor of 14.3 during the construction phase and the completion was delayed for several years. (And that was already in the 70s).

After the dispute in 1966, Utzon left Australia and never returned. Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated the Opera House in 1973.

In addition to a concert hall and a theater hall, the opera house also houses a multi-purpose hall, which is used as a circus, cinema, cabaret stage, and much more, as well as a restaurant.

A truly interesting tour and surprisingly even in German (but only on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m.).

Then we had a very British extensive walk through the Royal Botanic Gardens.

The highlight was a wedding in the garden. Just like you know it from American movies. With a flower arch, plastic chairs, and artificial flowers. Really cheesy.

However, there were only 4 guests present, plus the photographer, who got married and the wedding planner.

And the bride didn't look happy either, she had to marry an old geezer.

But it was so interesting and beautiful here that we had to have 2 beer lengths.

In the evening was our dinner cruise. A gift from my sister-in-law Katja and her husband Kai. So now you are immortalized too.

Originally, as the word suggests, we were given a tour with a glass boat and a 3-course menu, drinks, and a sunset. 2 days before the tour, they canceled it. Of course. Something could go smoothly for once. The shipping company offered a rebooking to the "Show Dinner Cruise" or a refund. After a bit of grumbling, we opted for the show cruise. I believe that they canceled the original tour so that they could fully book their show tour.

So after extensive strolling, off to the shower and get dressed up for the show and the sunset. Drive past the Sydney Opera House with a glass of champagne at sunset. A dream and it should remain a dream. As it had already been hinted in the afternoon, clouds were gathering and shortly before boarding (fortunately, we were sitting on the subway) it started to rain briefly. So the sunset literally fell into the water. The rest didn't. The food was delicious,

the bottle of champagne tasted good and the show was really good.

A completely successful evening. Thank you very much for that.
