Today I sleep in very late! Shower, breakfast, and by noon the sun is finally out again. I skip the Mount Iron Trail because it's just a hill, but at least it's open compared to the other trails. I'll come back for the Roys Peak Track anyway at the end of November, it's a detour of 200 km. So I'll do the Rob Roy Glacier Track instead. Tomorrow I'll continue to Queenstown and Glenorchy! I'm especially excited for Glenorchy. It will be one of the highlights of this long journey.
Strong winds have picked up on the shores of Lake Wanaka. I see lots of kite surfers. The plan was actually to have a relaxing afternoon. Instead, I find an instructor who takes me out on the water with a kite for an hour. That's what this trip is about: doing and enjoying whatever I feel like.
The wind is quite strong and so are the waves. Luckily, I only fall completely into the water once. That's a good thing because even with a thick wetsuit, I'm completely freezing. Lake Wanaka is even colder than Lake Garda! Later, I'll have some fried New Zealand lamb at the campsite to warm up.
