Today Hannes and I took the train to Brisbane City. A stark contrast to the rather tranquil Redcliffe: skyscrapers and lots of construction sites.
Our journey started from Central Station, leading us into the city center, the bustling shopping street in Queen Street Mall, then continuing over the Victoria Bridge, which crosses the Brisbane River, to the Queensland Cultural Center, where we discovered a lot about the history of Australia and its flora and fauna.
We continued through the South Bank Parklands along the banks of the Brisbane River until we reached the Goodwill Bridge, which offered a magnificent view of the river and the city. The juxtaposition of old colonial buildings and modern skyscrapers was particularly impressive.
But what we liked best was the botanical diversity in the Botanic Gardens: a mangrove forest along the Brisbane River, huge fig trees, tropical rainforest, lots of flowers, birds, and lizards.
After an extensive tour, we strolled back into the city to visit the City Hall with the Museum of Brisbane as the last highlight.
