In Thailand, you can visit cooking classes at several locations to get an insight into Thai cuisine. Chiang Mai has the highest concentration of cooking schools. I wanted to learn how to prepare Thai dishes, so I took a cooking class there.
I chose a full-day class at Smile Organic Farm Cooking School.
We started at 8 am in the morning. After being picked up from the hostel, we visited a local market.
Then we went to the cooking school, which is located outside of Chiang Mai on a farm. After a tour of the garden, including tasting various herbs and plants, we went behind the stove.
The great thing about the cooking class is that you can choose from a variety of dishes to cook. You can also adjust the dishes to your personal taste - for me, that means less spicy.
I chose the following dishes:
- Pad Thai
- Red Curry
- Coconut Milk Soup
- Papaya Salad
- Mango Sticky Rice
In addition, we also made spring rolls and two types of lemonade.
I had a fantastic day there. The food was delicious, and I had great conversations with the other participants in the class.
At the end of the class, each participant received a cookbook with the recipes. I am excited to try the dishes in Germany and curious if I can find the necessary ingredients there.
