Freshly rested after yesterday's rest day and with almost no wind, it went really well from Fulda!
I was able to mainly follow the Hessian Fern Cycle Route R2, which made navigating really easy thanks to the excellent signage. First, I went along the Fulda River, through beautiful valleys and hilly landscapes. I took my first break in the charming town of Lauterbach, which could have come straight out of a picture book.
Afterwards, I continued towards Alsfeld, with long sections on almost empty country roads and through hilly landscapes. In combination with the half-timbered houses that can be found in almost every village here, the surroundings reminded me in some places of a slightly modified version of the Franconian Switzerland, while in Röhn and Spessart with numerous cow pastures, I sometimes felt like I was in the Pre-Alps ;)
As the next river, or rather stream, I cycled along the beautiful Schwalm for a while and discovered a dreamy section with a beautiful river bed, which was hard for me to leave. Everywhere it smells of elderberries, the birds are chirping, and the brook is babbling, totally relaxing - or almost cheesy :D
From Alsfeld, I deliberately deviated from the R2 and found my own route to Königshain to shorten the distance by a few kilometers. However, I doubt whether it was much faster because of the included elevation meters :D
In Königshain, I treated myself to an ice cream as a reward and then covered a few kilometers along the third river of the day, the Ohm.
I found a suitable sleeping place on its banks after a slightly longer search and was amazed to realize that I was only about 10km away from Marburg :)
