South America, here we come!

Objavljeno: 19.03.2018

Hello everyone!

Finally, you don't have to read Jonas' boring posts anymore, but my super exciting stories! Just kidding, but I think Jonas is glad to be done with this task=)

After spontaneously booking a flight on Thursday, it was already time to leave for the airport on Tuesday=) But this time, it was a funny situation and I wasn't completely alone. Jonas' dad also flew to South America for three weeks on Tuesday. While I flew to Madrid and then to Sao Paulo, Josef had a direct flight to Sao Paulo. We met again there and flew the last part together to Iguassu. Jonas was already waiting at the airport and I can't describe how thrilled we were to finally see each other again after 70 days. A lot has happened during this time, for both of us. We'll probably need a few weeks to catch up and share everything. But now, it's time for three weeks of full-on activities!!!

We started in Brazil at the famous Iguassu Falls. The special thing is that you can observe the waterfalls from both the Brazilian and Argentine sides. So, there wasn't much time to rest and we immediately started a little tour on the Brazilian side on the day of arrival. We could already hear the water rushing down the slopes from afar and the view was truly breathtaking. For me, it was surreal to suddenly be here again and be able to experience such natural wonders, when just last week I was still playing "Da ist der Wurm drin" in kindergarten. At this point, greetings to my colleagues for your support, understanding, and the wonderful time we had!

The next day, we booked a tour on the other side of the waterfalls. But first, the bus took us to the tri-border area of Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay. Then the bus drove to the Argentine border and it was the easiest border crossing ever. The tour guide collected our passports, disappeared into the control office, and came back with stamps. It was that simple=)

I'm not sure which side of the waterfalls I ultimately found more beautiful, but the highlight was definitely a boat ride that took us directly under the waterfalls. We were completely soaked, down to our underwear, but it was definitely worth it and luckily it was 30 degrees Celsius, so we quickly dried off. There was a walkway along the countless waterfalls and every view was more beautiful than the last. The rainbows in particular made the natural spectacle complete.

In the evening, the bus took us back to the Brazilian side and we took a taxi directly to the Paraguayan border, as we wanted to fly further to Bolivia from there tomorrow. It was only one night in Paraguay, but I won't forget it either, as we quickly looked for something to eat in the dark (I was panicking the whole time because it was always said that you shouldn't go out on the street in the dark). But hunger prevailed and we found a small pizzeria. While we were eating, the power suddenly went out and we were left in complete darkness, nothing worked. Eating pizza during a power outage in Paraguay, another item to check off the list^^

These two days alone were already worth taking the expensive flight and the fear of flying alone, and I'm excited to see what else awaits us in the coming weeks.
