If it weren't for Eksjo today, it would have been a rather uneventful day, but let me start from the beginning. From our beautiful spot in the forest, it only took us fifteen minutes to reach Norrkoping. Due to a lack of motivation, we only took a sightseeing drive there. We then continued to Linkoping. Surprisingly, we even got out of the car here and briefly visited the cathedral and the city. The cathedral was even open! Inside, there was a beautiful figure of the Tree of Life, truly worth seeing with its silver and golden trunk, leaves, and glass fruits. Otherwise, it was rather plain inside.
And then came the highlight of the day, 'Eksjo'! Actually just a small town in the middle of nowhere. We have been wondering why most cities don't have old buildings in the city center. Especially since Sweden stayed out of the world wars and at least the city centers should have something historical besides a church. In Eksjo, we were enlightened. Here, a whole bunch of old houses have been preserved - all made of wood - absolutely worth seeing. In the late 19th century, the wooden houses were even plastered to make them look like they were made of stone. Super amazing atmosphere in the small city center.
Unfortunately, after World War II, many other cities decided to tear down a large part of this architecture and replace it with modern 'architectural masterpieces' - truly a shame, as the 2-3 story houses are very, very beautiful.
After nearly 300 kilometers of driving, we are now in Öjaby by a bathing lake and will end the day with some games.
