Hello!!
As we enter the Cappadocia region, we immediately realize that we are approaching a very special place. The rock formations and fairy chimneys here are truly breathtaking. We spent the first night in Mustafapasa. After a short walk around the village, we met Jakob, who owns a shop where you can browse for hours and always discover something beautiful. We were looking for a small carpet that would fit on the dashboard (we got the idea from here). Half an hour after finishing our tea, we are already in the back room of his father's hotel, choosing a carpet. We spent the night at the camping site of his late grandfather, which had been closed for many years, and in the morning we were invited to have breakfast at the hotel and eat with the family. After a delicious breakfast of feta cheese, olives, fresh cucumber, and flatbread, we drove to Urgup to stroll through the bazaar. Suddenly, we were tapped on the shoulder in the middle of the bazaar and a blond guy said, 'Hey, do you remember me? Art Lake Festival last year!' We were completely surprised, but then we remembered: Martin from Dresden, with whom we spent a weekend at the Art Lake Festival through other friends. Martin and three of his friends from Dresden are biking to Kazakhstan!
We can hardly contain our laughter, especially when we realize that the group of cyclists we greeted from the car the day before was, of course, them!! Check out their website, it's worth it: www.strampeltiere.de
Another highlight of the region is the multitude of hot air balloons that rise into the sky every morning. When choosing our sleeping spot, we planned to have a good view of this spectacle. In the morning, we found out that we ended up in the landing area with our choice, so we were even closer to the balloons than we thought :D
We already had planned to continue our journey today, but once again, everything goes differently than expected :) We are sitting at Kenan's cafe in Uchisar, which has proven to be a great base for us in the last few days and feels like our living room now! Knut is at the workshop in the nearest big city today, getting a new water pump installed! After having to refill coolant every 2 days, we started to get suspicious.
Yesterday, we had the great fortune of meeting Bernd. He is a German who has been coming to this area for many years, is incredibly knowledgeable about its history, and knows many hidden old churches. So we decided to stay here for a few more days to let him show us some of them.
We are about to go to the bazaar with Kenan now, hopefully not buying too much!
Take care and see you soon!!
