Napier and Hastings

प्रकाशित: 24.10.2017

Our three days in the port city of Napier are over now, tomorrow at 8 o'clock our bus will leave for Wellington, our last stop on the North Island.

I really liked Napier, among other things because the small town is located right on the east coast. But even apart from that, Napier is beautiful. It was rebuilt after a strong earthquake in 1931, mainly in the Art Deco style, which makes the city special.
Yesterday it was unfortunately a bit rainy, so we went to the New Zealand National Aquarium and the Napier Museum, where there were three free exhibitions, including one on the severe earthquake.
In the aquarium, we saw many fish, reptiles, and fossils, as well as cute little penguins and real kiwis for the first time! The birds are a bit bigger than I had imagined and also look funnier. Unfortunately, I couldn't take a picture of them because it was too dark there (kiwis are very light-sensitive).

Hastings

Today we hitchhiked from Napier to Hastings for a day trip. The two cities are also called 'The Twin Cities' because they are quite close to each other. But I'm glad we spent the three days in Napier and not in Hastings, as Napier is definitely prettier, although Hastings also has some nice areas.

Tomorrow we will not only arrive at our last stop on the North Island, but it will also be exactly one month since we arrived here. It definitely doesn't feel that long yet, and it will probably feel strange to leave the North Island at the end of this week, but for now, we are looking forward to 4 days in the capital of New Zealand.
