Why do you go to Ireland?
I heard this question several times and the answer is quite easy. I never decided to go to a special country. The only criterion was, that it should be an english speaking country. The other possbilities were New Zealand and Australia. The main reason for my decision was, that I have already got an job offer in Ireland. The salary covers my living expenses but I won't get rich. And there are less efforts with the visum, because of its membership of the European Union.
Many efforts before relocating to Ireland
Before starting to go to Ireland I had to do many things. It was really hard to inform about the irish systems, for example the health system or how to apply for a PPS number. I had to talk to the German institutions too, e.g.the Rentenversicherung, the Krankenkasse and the Einwohnermeldeamt. But now I think everything is working
Time to say goodbye
The farewell of my family, my girlfriend and all of my friends was very difficult for me and was connected with some tears. But in the end, I know that I will return to Germany at some point in the future.
The journey
I decided to travel to Ireland by car, because I would be more flexible in Ireland and because you can't rent a car under 26. My mother lent her car to me for 5 months. So I started at Tuesday, 11th of October, to drive to Chambourcy, which is located in the east of Paris. The journey was about 8,5 hours, because there was much traffic on the motorway in Paris. In Chambourcy I visited my friend Jonas, who is doing an aupair-year. We went to an Irish pub and I stayed there until Wednesday. On Wednesday I continued the journey driving to Cherbourg, where my ferry was leaving at 9pm. The ferry drives directly from France to Ireland. It took about 19 hours, but it was okay because I booked an cabin. On Thursday evening I arrived in Avoca at my host family. I was tired but happy.
