Stage 48: From Bursa to Bandirma

प्रकाशित: 11.01.2022

The exit from the million city of Bursa was more pleasant than expected. Today was the first longer stage since the winter break. The first 35 kilometers went well on the expressway, which seems to be less and less crowded west of Bursa. A few kilometers detour to the south leads to Lake Ulubat, where there are many wild pelicans. In particular, the town of Gölyazi is worth seeing, its circular arrangement on the lake reminded me of Primosten in Croatia or Sveti Stefan in Montenegro. Gölyazi was also the ideal place for a small lunch, although there were still about 80 kilometers to Bandirma. The best encounter of the day was a Turkish man in front of a stray dog shelter who insisted on giving me a chocolate bar. After a few minutes of conversation using the Google Translator, it became clear that he also likes to ride a bike, and he also showed me a few pictures of his tours.

Just before Karacabey, I finally wanted to get off the expressway, and it immediately became very rural (with potholes). On the last third to the coast in Bandirma, I decided to take the road again. I arrived at the hotel at dusk, and communication was possible even without English. In Turkey, you often get a double room with a kettle and refrigerator for €10 per night. The stormy weather and falling temperatures also do not motivate me to set up my tent again!

The next morning, I wanted to take a quick look at the port of Bandirma. A ferry also runs here from Istanbul, but I am not in a hurry. However, I didn't want to overdo the sightseeing to avoid getting caught in the announced persistent rain.
