Stage 47: From Yalova to Bursa

प्रकाशित: 09.01.2022

My host didn't let me leave without a hearty breakfast. It was the whole program, including pancakes, boiled eggs, about 1 kilogram of bread with various cheese types, olives, honey, homemade quince jam (Ayva in Turkish), and homemade french fries. Of course, we also talked, so I didn't start until 12 noon. Luckily, today's stage is also manageable!

Back on the main road (the only alternative would be the highway...), I went through Orhangazi and Gemlik until I reached Bursa. The inclines that had to be overcome in between were tough, but less exhausting than the previous day. The old town of Bursa is already located at the foot of Mount Uludag, also called the 'Mysian Olympus'. The region is a popular ski resort and I could see some snow-covered slopes. There is also a cable car from the city center to the mountain, which gives its name to the lemonades in German kebab shops.

In the early evening, I still had some energy left for sightseeing. The city is also called 'green Bursa' because of its many green spaces, the green mosque, and the green mausoleum. This refers to the interior decoration, especially the mosque is not particularly green from the outside. The 'Iskender Kebab' was also invented in Bursa, and of course, I wanted to try it in the evening.
