England June 2017 - First day in Whitby

Byatangajwe: 09.05.2018

After two days in Scarborough, the journey continued to Whitby, which was only an hour away by bus. Once we arrived, we checked into the Beaches Guesthouse. Fortunately, we only had to spend two nights there, as I probably wouldn't have been able to handle it for much longer. The owner made a rather strange impression on us right from the welcome. The next shock was the fact that we didn't have our own bathroom. We had to use the bathroom downstairs, which wasn't mentioned when we booked. It was supposed to have its own bathroom. The actual room was quite small and very dark. The only positive thing was the view from the window to the Abbey.

So that we didn't have to stay there for long, we wanted to go on the first exploration tour of the city. Unfortunately, the weather was so bad that it dampened my enthusiasm. I really couldn't stand the weather here anymore. It rained all the time, so you could hardly do anything outdoors. After a while, it actually stopped raining and we could set off. The photos were all taken when the weather cleared up a bit. I don't want to give the wrong impression of great weather here! :D Anyway, we used the rest of the day to look around and see what we could do tomorrow and also to eat fish and chips. Of course, at some point, the path led us back to our accommodation. We tried to spend as little time there as possible and wanted to go back to the city for dinner soon. Unfortunately, a downpour ruined our plans. And I'm talking about a proper downpour, not a few drops that an umbrella would help with. And so we had to - once again - wait until it stopped raining. Eventually, it did stop and we went on a search for something to eat, quite hungry. However, it seems impossible to find a restaurant that is still open in Whitby in the evening. Somehow everything closes here by 8pm at the latest. After a while, we finally found an Indian restaurant that was open and satisfied our hunger there. After that, we went down to the beach, where the sunset had just begun.
