On our way to Hungary, our faithful friend the Lonely Planet Europe showed us another highlight for Slovakia: the city of Kosice, which is located exactly on the road to Hungary. So we decided to make a short stop here, write postcards, and stroll around the city. And so we did - we found a parking space in the city center and set off... The city center is really beautiful and besides magnificent buildings that you can see in the photos, there is also a music fountain that plays classical music and many churches that are especially popular for weddings on Saturdays: it was almost unbelievable how many bridal couples and wedding limousines we saw in just one afternoon. One last time (well, maybe 2-3 times), we bought a slice of pizza for 80 cents and ice cream for 50 cents (and what ice cream!! - oh man, it was delicious - real creamy ice cream in a cone!) and then walked back to the car to go to Hungary.
In the car, we remembered that I (Anne) hadn't taken a swim in Slovakia yet. And since I had made it a goal to swim in a body of water in every country of our trip, we needed to find a swimming spot quickly. According to our GPS, the nearest and only one before the Hungarian border was not far away... In the middle of Kosice. So we started Google Maps and off we went. Our destination was located in the most beautiful panel housing estate in Kosice: a pond amidst socialist social housing, in the concrete fortress. Idyll in a different way. Well, a promise is a promise, so we didn't hesitate for long - put on our bikinis and jumped in. Within 2 minutes, it was done, especially since it was 15 degrees Celsius outside, 14 degrees Celsius water temperature, windy, and getting dark. You can surely find nicer places to swim in Slovakia.
