(After the Jellifish and I had filled the last few days in Germany with all our strength with wonderful experiences, we started Friday morning to Frankfurt Airport. Mamaqualle brought us there.
The luggage drop-off and bridging the waiting time)
... flew by, although at that time we were not yet aware of how long a flight can be.
I only really became aware that it was really starting when we had to say goodbye to Mamaqualle with tears in our eyes to go through passport control.
After we first went through a body and hand luggage check that didn't lead to our gate at all, we had to go back and reorient ourselves to finally board. From then on, it was not far to Abu Dhabi.
The first flight with Etihad (6 h) was really great, we couldn't stop being amazed at the comfort of the aircraft. The flight attendants and their service, even the food (three-course menu) were very good, so we arrived relatively relaxed in Abu Dhabi where we had 2 hours transfer time.
The first part was quite stressful, as we were squeezed into a narrow transit tube with 1000 other travelers and moved towards the next hand luggage and personal control at a snail's pace. On the other hand, thanks to all the free wifi, we quickly called our moms and enthusiastically told them about our first flight.
Contrary to our expectations, the second plane (such a fancy double-decker) was even more comfortable, which is why I had to take a photo of my little board computer to show it to you. The first 5 hours were okay so far, although despite good entertainment program (many (new) movies, series, shows and even games that could be played on the screen or on the removable no-name PSP), boredom slowly spread among us. We dozed off for hours at a time, which the Jellifish was better at than me. After really looooong 14 hours, the bird of the air landed very gently into the sunset in our destination city, Melbourne. That was a great feeling. Finally, unfold the body again and take a few steps to the baggage carousel.
The border control and all the stuff went ratzi fatzi and before we knew it, we were at the bus stop to get to the Central Business District (CBD). A few minutes and many we-arrived-safely messages later, the bus driver greeted us with a friendly 'Hi girls, how are you doing? Did you have a safe trip?' and within half an hour we were at Southern Cross Station, which is exactly as big as the name suggests. With aching backs and bags under our eyes, we finally found the right tickets and stop for the tram to Carlton North, our new hood.
After a short visit to the kebab man (we got a snack box (according to him a Melbourne specialty) consisting of chips, chicken and three sauces (garlic, chili & BBQ)), we went to the apartment where we were warmly welcomed by Andreas (at least as German as we are) and his German friends at around 10 p.m. local time, after about 30 hours of travel time.
After a short tour and a 'Where are you from? What are you doing in Germany? How was the journey?' round, we quickly took a shower and then went to bed, which is accessible via a ladder.
Falling asleep was not that easy despite exhaustion and tiredness due to the time difference, so 5 hours have to be enough for me, as I couldn't sleep on the plane at all, and 2-3 hours for the Jellifish, who was able to rest a little better in the air.
Now we are excited about our first day in our temporary home and we kiss and cuddle everyone who thinks of us!
