13.01.2020, Day of Surprises

Lofalitsidwa: 15.01.2020

Honestly, I don't even know where to start with everything that has already happened on the first day...

At the airport, the first shock.
My travel partner tells me that she is backing out and will not come to Ghana.
She is unsure and uncomfortable with the situation... I was and still am totally shocked and quite overwhelmed.
After that, there were a lot of tears and saying goodbye to mom and dad didn't make things easier.
But so far so good, I have to go through Ghana alone!

Unfortunately, the flight to Lisbon was delayed for a whole 2 hours, and my fear of missing the connecting flight to Accra grew even bigger.
Actually, I thought that 3 hours of transfer time would be more than enough.
Luckily, the next flight was also delayed by 20 minutes, so I just managed to catch the connecting flight by running.
My nerves were already completely shot :D

After landing, I had to go through several checks.
Show the yellow fever proof, submit the health card, check the passport, and submit the migration card.
After finally having my luggage in my hands, it was time for the next check.
Being scrutinized, I was asked if I was here for the first time and if I had any gifts with me.
I was also asked three times what was in my backpack and how many phones and laptops I had.
I kept my emergency phone secret, as it would most likely have been taken away from me.
After 5 minutes, I was finally able to leave the airport building and look for my host mother outside.
This was not as easy as I thought, as all the taxi drivers immediately swarmed towards me.
After finding her, her driver took us home.

Arriving home in Teshie, I fell into bed tired and exhausted.
Unfortunately, it's not that easy to find peace when it's 28°C at night (the ceiling fan doesn't do much either).
But in the next few days, I'm sure I'll get used to it... just like the water, which tastes totally like chemicals here and I can only drink it with my nose blocked...
